On Achievable Rates for Long-Haul Fiber-Optic Communications
Lower bounds on mutual information (MI) of long-haul optical fiber systems for hard-decision and soft-decision decoding are studied. Ready-to-use expressions to calculate the MI are presented. Extensive numerical simulations are used to quantify how changes in the optical transmitter, receiver, and channel affect the achievable transmission rates of the system. Special emphasis is put to the us...
متن کاملOFDM in Optical Long-Haul Transmission
In this paper we review two OFDM based architectures, which have recently been proposed for optical long-haul transmission. The BER performance is investigated in presence of chromatic dispersion and differential group delay. In a further step both architectures are extended to polarization diversity receivers. Improvement is achieved by diversity combining at the expense of increased complexity.
متن کاملAchievable Information Rates Estimation for 100-nm Raman- Amplified Optical Transmission System
The achievable information rates of optical communication systems using ultra-wide bandwidth 100-nm distributed Raman amplification have been investigated for each individual subchannels, based on the first-order perturbative analysis of nonlinear distortions. Introduction To date, optical fibre communications have achieved unprecedented growth and success over the past three decades and now st...
متن کاملMulti-level Linecoding for Ultra-high Speed Long-haul Optical Fibre Communications Systems
The demands for greater spectral efficiency, higher line rate, higher channel count, greater amplifier/repeater spacing, Tb/s capacity DWDM long haul optical communication systems, efficient transmission of optical channels over long-haul optical fibre system is essential. Since the conventional Return to zero (RZ) and Non return to zero (NRZ) modulation formats suffer from dispersion and ineff...
متن کاملCoherent Optical OFDM System or Long-Haul Transmission
In this paper, the coherent optical – orthogonal frequency division modulation (CO-OFDM) technique for transmission of optical signal at 10Gbps data rate has been investigated. The CO-OFDM technique has been evaluated using quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulation technique. The use of Dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) in various compensation schemes, i.e., post, pre and symmetrical co...
